Hello, hello! It’s early, eh? I learnt my lesson from yesterday and wrote this as soon as I finished writing my words for the morning.
Growth! We love to see it.
I finished writing chapter 15 this morning, hence the slightly larger word count than usual. I hit my goal and was two seconds away from stopping when I looked at how much left I had to write and then, honestly, I just couldn’t leave it alone. So now I have a full finished chapter 15 and I’m all that much happier for it!
The chapter ended up doing the exact things I was hoping it would, so in terms of moving the relationship along between these characters, we’re well on our way. I finally started to feel like I was getting this particular narrator’s voice right, too — she’s different from people I usually write, and I could definitely feel myself slipping into other tones in other parts of the story, but I think I’m finally starting to get it here.
It’s a nice feeling this morning — without saying much about it, this morning is a pretty big morning for me. If you could cross your fingers for me, I’d appreciate it.
Anyway, when I pick up tomorrow, I’ll be working on good ol’ chapter 17 — I’m not sure how much I’ll need to write between that scene and the next landmark I have, but I’m estimating maybe a chapter or two? I can feel myself getting more and more conscious of the length of this novel, though I know myself and I know that I almost always tend to overwrite rather than underwrite, so, here I am again, worrying about something that I really don’t need to be worrying about.
If that isn’t the whole story of my life though.
Anyway, I’m liking the momentum that I feel like I’m building, so I’m hopeful it means good things to come over the next few days. Fingers crossed for all of us!
