I used to like to make these when I had a YouTube channel, so I thought I’d try my hand at a written version. Let me know what you think about them!
6.50: I somehow woke up before my alarm this morning (why does this always happen when I have a day off work???). I rolled out into the kitchen, eyes half open, and made my first cup of tea of the day
7.31: after spending a good forty minutes laying on the sofa reading fic, I finally made it to my desk to start reading the travel novel, my main writing work for the day. I started on chapter 10 and read up to chapter 12 before I had to go make breakfast at 8
10.27: I tugged on an extra layer and went on a morning walk. In between my walk and breakfast, I rolled out my muscles (I did HIIT two days in a row like an absolute clown and now I’m very sore), I got ready for the day, I read some more fic, I cleared out my inbox, and I drank my second cup of tea.
The air is crisp, it’s a little windy, and the sun is shining and wow I love fresh air all the time but I especially loved it today.
11.03: fresh from my walk, I switched on an audiobook, unloaded the dishwasher, and watered my plants. I’m currently listening to Just Like You by Nick Hornby.
Oh, and I made my third cup of tea. I got some water, too, because I’m trying to be a little better about not dehydrating myself.
11.28: rather than sit at my desk again, I decided to take my laptop into my room and read some more chapters of the travel novel in bed. I know, I know, you’re supposed to separate work space and sleeping space, but sometimes I really just need to sit on my bed wrapped in a blanket. I started on chapter 12, switched on Focus Flow, and read until I hit chapter 14 and I dragged myself up to go make lunch.
13.00: I had a lovely catch up with a friend from work. We hadn’t chatted in ages (outside of, like, Work Meetings™) and it was so nice to chat with her and catch up before the holiday break
also had my fourth cup of tea (I’m starting to realise I have a problem)
14:06: I stared out the window in my office for a few minutes, enjoying the afternoon sun and my still-warm cuppa and thought about just how grateful I am for my friends
14.14: I was feeling a little hunched over, so I did a bit of yoga. I try to do yoga every other day (even if it’s just a bit of stretching at the end of the day), but I decided to make myself prioritise it today and do a longer video. Today, I did Yoga with Adriene’s Yoga for Pelvic Floor
15.46: After a bit of time bopping around the house with the kid, I wandered back into my office to pick up reading a few more chapters. I lit my candle and I read from ch14 to ch17 to the sound of The Aces and the wind blowing outside
16.10: I took the writing outside – I sat on my back porch and enjoyed the breeze for a few
16:50: went on another walk, this time with the kid. It got dark as we were walking home and that’s something I’ve really started appreciating more this year, taking walks in the dark. I read an article about it in the Guardian that really got me thinking and I’ve been looking at it differently ever since
18.25: we ate dinner (I made chicken noodle soup and it was perfect after a cold windy day) and I meant to write some of my fic this evening, but… I played the Sims instead. My game is so laggy, though, and honestly I ended up more frustrated than anything else so I wish I’d just written the fic
19.34: I watched ‘Writing Diversely & the problem with “staying in your lane”‘ – it’s a video I want to watch a few more times, especially as a white writer, and it’s just one piece of media I need to add to my list of things to read/watch as I’m thinking about my approach to writing diverse characters. I just want to write good representation and keep educating myself to get at the root of the problem (the root being publishing and the systems of power within it that prioritise white, straight, cis, non-disabled, financially privileged, etc writers)
22.12: I’m finishing up writing this post and getting myself to bed! I spent the rest of the evening hanging around with the kid — we played Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader with my sisters and wow we’re all very, very competitive people
I meant to write out some more of the fic I was working on today, too, but my focus today really ended up just being on getting more chapters of the travel novel read. I’ve been really worried about it, honestly, but re-reading it is reminding me just how much I love the story. I still need to come up with a plan to start querying it again in January, but I definitely feel more confident about the story again.
I hope that this was a fun little look into what a pretty average day looks like. I love these sorts of things (and like routine pieces, too), so this was fun to do throughout the day today. I hope that you’re doing well and that your week is off to a nice start. If you celebrate any December holidays, I hope you have (or had!) a lovely holiday!! x

Loved this! And we’re on a wavelength, Elle, because I did the same Yoga with Adrienne video as you did yesterday. 😉
OMG REALLY?!?!?! I ACTUALLY LOVE THAT. She always is saying like “think of all the people who are doing this video the same time as you” AND YESTERDAY THAT PERSON WAS YOU!!!
[…] hello, here I am doing another day in my life post because, what do you know, I really liked doing the last one. I’m currently in the midst of filming a writing vlog that’ll be up on my YouTube […]
