I’ve officially won NaNo 2020!
As of today, I have now written 52,507 words this month. Which, like, I knew that was the goal (it’s the goal every year), but there’s something really wild seeing it in print like that.
Like I pulled that many words out of my brain. WHILE IT WAS MADE ENTIRELY OF LEAVES.
I’m going to do a proper wrap up at the end of the month with all my thoughts, so I don’t want to get too ahead of myself now and start thinking about big NaNo trends or whatever, but it is interesting to me that knowing I’ve won has definitely like… lifted some of the pressure off me. I think it’s the combination of the fact that I’m getting into a groove with the story and the fact that I now technically met my number goal — no matter what it is, I’m curious about how the rest of the month is going to go.
I am going to keep writing — my goal, really, was to get through a full draft of this whole novel — so we’ll see where I end up after the next six days are over. I don’t think, honestly, that I’ll be finished the full draft of the novel, but I will definitely do my best to get as close as I can. If I write at my current pace, that’ll be at least another 12,000 words into the story so, like, come on, I’ll have to be close by then, right?
Fingers crossed.
