I know I was banging on the other day about forcing myself to write the middle, but in the interest of complete and total honesty, I really just wrote the end chapters of the book today. I know, I know, I can’t avoid the middle forever, but I can avoid it today and so…. I did. Mostly, because I did finish chapter 11 (the chapter I’ve been slowly hacking away at for the last four days or so and that I then had to split into two chapters because I realised it was very, very long), but otherwise, it was end of the book central around here today.
Today I wrote while listening to the Sounds of London and, once again, the sound of the rain and traffic outside my window. I’d put on my writing playlist this morning and tried to listen to some music but that just was not happening for me today. I don’t know why, but it was all feeling more distracting than usual and I finally decided some ASMR was going to have to be the way to go.
It helps that I miss London so intensely it honest to god feels like I have a hole in my heart. Or, I guess, it doesn’t help my overall state of being, but it helped to listen to this video this morning. I also found a whole video that’s literally just ten hours of tube ambience and you might wonder why that’s something that makes me happy, but I genuinely don’t know. I can only say that it does, indeed, make me deeply, deeply happy (even though I also have a lot of stress-based memories of the tube, like getting on the Central line at 0730 and having to stand in literally a postage stamp’s worth of space while pretending that the whole of my body is not actively pressed up against a variety of strangers).
Anyway, even if I didn’t take my own advice re: which parts of my story to write, though, I did take my advice re: writing times. I finished all my writing this morning! No hay brain for me later.
Or, well, I still have hay brain, but I won’t have to pull words out of said hay brain. So victory for me! How did your writing go today? Sending lots of extra creative vibes x
