I’ll admit it, I… also didn’t get to my computer early today. In my defence, we were putting up our tree, drinking mulled cider, and practically inhaling a chocolate orange and, really, that was far preferable to sitting alone in my office for a few hours.
It was late in the evening by the time I finally dragged my computer out of my office (opting to sit in the living room with the kid instead and scribble out a few things). I wrote a good thousand or so out there before I had to break to read the kid to sleep, and, after that, I decided to move into my office to really buckle down for the last thousand. As I’m typing this (at quarter past ten), I’ve just finished getting my words done for the day — I feel like I can barely keep my eyes open, so I’m glad that I managed to stick to it today.
I was feeling like I was getting suck in this chapter — this is a moment where things are starting to change between the main characters and I was struggling with it (I think in part, because I’ve been reading so many wonderful stories recently where this has been done really well and I was feeling sort of inadequate) — so I ended up doing a few 5-min writing sprints to get myself out of my own head a little. It ended up helping quite a bit in the end, so I’m glad that I have that tool in my toolbox.
Let me know how your writing went! What are some of your favourite writing tools/tricks that you use (in general or when you’re feeling stuck)? x
